A Lifetime Commitment
to Montebello

As a 35-year Montebello resident with deep roots in this community, I know firsthand the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead.

My 20 years of experience in local government have shown me what it takes to get things done, but I also know we can't afford to stand still. This election isn't about looking backward; it's about moving our city boldly into the future.

There's more work to do, and I'm asking for the opportunity to serve this city I love and help carry that work forward.

 About Georgina Tamayo

Montebello has been my home since 1987, when my family immigrated to the U.S. for educational opportunities and to work towards a better life for my siblings and me, instilling in us the principles of hard work and commitment. I have been married for 26 years to my amazing husband. We met at UCLA during our college years, and upon graduating, we were married in Montebello, and we purchased our home in this wonderful city. We have two children who went through the MUSD school system and graduated from Schurr High School; my son graduated from our alma mater, UCLA, and my daughter graduated from San Diego State University. Throughout their upbringing, we were heavily involved in various Montebello sports teams and immersed in the programs that our community had to offer. Two of my siblings are teachers with the Montebello Unified School District, my other brother is a police officer for the City of Alhambra, and my husband worked as a school principal. We are a Family of Service.

 Education & Career

I understand the importance of combining education, professional experience, and sound judgment to make effective decisions for our community. I earned a bachelor’s degree in History with a specialization in Business and Administration, as well as a master’s degree in Urban Planning from UCLA.

For the past 14 years, I have worked for the City of Los Angeles Housing Department, where I currently serve as Director of Development and Finance. Before joining the City of Los Angeles, I spent six years with the County of Los Angeles Community Development Commission and eight years working with nonprofit organizations.

In 2022, I was elected to the Montebello City Council, and in 2025, I was appointed Mayor. My background in local government, housing, finance, community development, and nonprofit service has prepared me to make thoughtful, responsible policy decisions that strengthen Montebello and improve the quality of life for our residents.
